When you’ve built a company and reputation — 50 years strong — around world-class service and products, and meeting the needs of the building industry — you listen when that industry talks.

“We started our interiors line about five years ago, and ever since then it’s been, ‘What about fire rating? What about fire rating?’,” says Dana Madden, Vice President of Marketing for Tamlyn. “After years of researching and testing, we’ve finally delivered.”

Tamlyn’s fire rated profiles launched in early fall. The profiles are Tamlyn’s standard aluminum reveals, but with an intumescent strip applied to the back that expands when exposed to high temperatures and builds a barrier allowing for fire ratings throughout a project, regardless of wall details.

“Intumescent tape is not a new thing, but putting in on trim and on a drywall system is,” says Marcus Armenta, Tamlyn. “We are the first in the industry to do it.”

There are of course other, more expensive solutions — like doubling up on drywall for one — but that often comes at the expense of design elements and the owner’s wallet.

“Our fire rated profiles are an ideal solution, especially in commercial applications, where you don’t want to lose your fire rating down a corridor,” Armenta says. “With our fire rated profiles, you can keep your wall details and your fire rating — all without sacrificing money or design.”

Where did the idea for fire rated profiles come from?

“We meet frequently with architects and designers to get a better understanding of how their work is going, what problems they are running into, things like that,” says Madden. “Those conversations are often the basis for new products and lines. Need-based is historically how Tamlyn works. It’s how we like to work.”
