mindful MATERIALS, Inc. Granted 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Status
mindful MATERIALS, Inc is proud to announce that the Internal Revenue Service has granted the organization tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, effective as of January 24, 2022.

“This has been an incredible transition for mindful MATERIALs and the built environment community at large,” said Annie Bevan, CEO of mindful MATERIALS. “mM has always been a for-benefit organization, but as an official 501(c)(3) our business model is now better aligned with our vision and purpose: to enable a world where sustainability is weighed for every product on every project. We’ve made incredible progress as a volunteer-led organization, and with a small but mighty staff. This designation will now empower the building ecosystem to more easily invest in our growth, helping us to expand our efforts and capacity for the betterment of all.”

Non-profit status further strengthens the organization’s role as a hub for collaboration, education, and collective impact among stakeholders throughout the built environment who share the organization’s vision for positive human health, climate health, ecosystem health, social health & equity and circular economy outcomes. Its resources and education support the adoption of products with third party sustainability standards, lead specifiers to address sustainability holistically, and enable a solid foundation for reducing the embodied impacts of buildings.

“The future is only getting brighter for mindful MATERIALS," says Steve Kooy, mM Board Chair. "The 501(c)(3) status solidifies its role as a neutral group helping everyone come together and determine what information is important and how best to make sustainability based decisions. For the past two decades interest in sustainability has grown exponentially. However, with that growth we’ve seen confusion for both material purchasers and manufacturers in terms of priorities. Mindful MATERIALS will serve as a collaboration hub to focus the ecosystem on what matters most – with no hidden agenda.”
